Preparation

                Please wear loose, comfortable clothing, and walking shoes if you wish to walk the trails around the 100 acre property afterwards

                (weather permitting). The mindful movement portion can be done from a chair, or if comfortable, you are welcome to use a yoga mat (provided)           

                on the carpeted floor. Lunch will be served from noon to 1pm and complimentary coffee/teas/water/fruit basket are

                available throughout the retreat.

                   Introduction to Mindfulness as a Skillful Means for Stress Reduction and Team-Building

                   Welcome

                        11am:  Introduction

                               Overview of Mindfulness: Working Definition, History and Science. (5 minute didactic)


                        11:10am - Noon     

                               Guided Mindfulness Relaxation Body Scan (30 minutes)

                               Guided Mindfulness Meditation (10 minutes)

   

                        Noon-1pm  

                                Mindful Eating (dyadic exercise)

                                Lunch/Free Time


                        1-2pm  

                                Mindful Movement: Gentle, flowing movement using mindful awareness of body and breath emphasizing joint stability and relaxation

                                of the upper and lower body designed for countering the habitual stress associated with computer/desk work.

    

                       2-2:30pm

                               Compassion Meditation

                               Mindful Pause - practical on-the-spot method for bringing heart to mind that fosters the relaxation response over reactivity

                               and enhances our ability to care and relate compassionately to ourselves and others.

 

                        2:30 - 3pm 

                               Group Q & A.

                               Handout with Tips and Resources for sustaining mindfulness in everyday life.

                               Introduction to Mindful Walking with opportunity to hike the Prairie House trails.

                

                 Follow-up Activities

               There will be an opportunity for hiking the Prairie House trails that wind along the prairie and naturalized lakeshore,

                 weather permitting. Mindfulness-related books and CD’s will be on display and I will be available for individual mindfulness-    

                 related questions/discussion following the session.


             Mini-Massage Therapy Sessions

             There will be a sign up sheet for 15 minute targeted massage therapy sessions between 3 - 5pm.

             Summary

                 The half-day restorative retreat includes:

                         Three hour introduction to formal and informal mindfulness practices and mindful movement.

                         Methods to enhance awareness, compassion, and relaxation in everyday life.

                         Evidence-based stress management skills.

                         Resources for sustaining ongoing practice.

                         Support in a community of people who work, learn, and practice together.
